HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICHIE BOY

Today....February 12, 2009 at officially 2:10pm is my only son's 26th Birthday.

It has been tradition at our home that neither my daughter nor my son can celebrate their birthday until the official time of their birth!

They still remind me as their birthdays draw nigh as if my husband or I could forget the date...ever. And I always say, for Richie...Your birthday does not start on February 12th....until 2:10pm. They enjoy that part more than anything.

The picture above is of my son and his bride on his wedding day. I have tons of pictures of my only son......tons of hours of cam-corder....but very few on the computer and I don't have a scanner and I don't know how to do it..................

~but~ this picture is appropriate as I had the realization on his wedding day I was not the Love of his Life any more....."The Day of Dandelion Bouquets" were gone...

He was the perfect baby......he was a miracle baby.....taken by c-section with neonatal Drs. on stand by and not a one of them were needed....apgar scores of 9 and 10. He slept the first 5 days of his life like an angel....every mother's dream....

"BE WARE OF THOSE BABIES THAT SLEEP FIRST 5 DAYS OF LIFE."
~Debbie says...not confucius

It seems that is all the sleep he needed.....because after those first 5 days he was reading Wall street and working part time as a comic. Every thing he did brought laughter...he was a natural...a humorist...the only time he wasn't funny was when he tried to be funny...and there was that time he tied his sister into her room with a jump rope where she couldn't open her bedroom door...she promised to kill him if she ever got out!

He was so very sweet....he could not start his day until he received a hug.....The day he got his wheels...his baby walker....there was no stopping that boy...he was into everything....his favorite drive-in was his sister's bedroom where he took every book off all the shelves and would pull the drawers out of her dresser....she did not like him much.........

He was a little tow-head and kinda like a Dennis the Menance.

He played out door soccer from k-5 to fourteen years both spring and fall season. Then he went into speech/drama from 9th grade through college. His sophomore year he took third place in the state of Oklahoma for 4-A.
He also was in some plays for community theater and played parts in Shakespeare in the Park. A desire of his is to meet the actor Kevin Spacey.
Our cat....sarge Spacey was Richie's cat until we adopted him....that is why he has the name Spacey....after Richie's idol.

What would I want people to know about him:

1. When he laughs the loudest is when he is under the most stress

2. For 26 years old, he is a marvelous cook

3. He could answer about any trivia question about film or sports

4. Friends and family are very important to him

5. Qualities: Faithful...Trust-worthy...Works until he makes it to the top
of the company and then is interested no more......he likes the hard
work and determination it takes to make it to the top of the ladder
and when there is no more to learn...he needs a different job and
doesn't mind the bottom rung of the ladder....he will clean toilets
and sweep floors.....even as a manager he leads by example

6. He talks to people at their level and never talks down to them

7. He is not one for idle chat but if you are a deep thinker about
subjects of life, politics, films, sports, and the economy....he's
your man

8. He doesn't like chick flicks or the actress Julia Roberts...(he did not
get that from me.....I love romantic movies and Julia Roberts)

9. He loves a pretty yard but yard work was not ever in his job
description

10. He is now and has always been a home body....does not enjoy
traveling

11. DOES NOT EAT CAKE....HIS ONLY DESERT IS PUMPKIN PIE
so you know what his birthday cake is and has always been since
the age of 13.

He LOVES children but wants none of their own for at least 5 more years...OSU football and basketball...the sitcom Friends(that is pretty much how his life was before marriage)...sidewalk cafes...Borders bookstore...still keeps in touch with his high school friends...music of all kinds...Tyler, his best friend...acting...fantasy football...video games...his yorkie nova (however he prefers cats over dogs because cats don't bark and are more independent)

Richard...Richie...Rich,
Daddy, Amy, and I love you. I loved you before you were ever born and although we didn't know your gender...I knew you would be a boy.
You are my "favorite" son and Amy my "favorite" daughter. Megan my "favorite" daughter'n'law.
You are so handsome and funny and a wonderful husband. You have beautiful eyes and a big heart.
I am soooo very proud of you for all 26 years of your life.
You, my dear son, are so precious to me, there are not words to describe it.
I can shut my eyes and see photos of you growing up and can hear you giggle....I can still see you bringing me the Richie board and bending over and saying..."Pank me...me bad...Pank me!" You always wanted a spanking....you didn't want to be talked to about what you did...YOU KNEW WHAT YOU HAD DONE...a talking took too long...you just wanted to be spanked and get it over with.....and all those times you dyed your hair different colors, and daddy called you "rosebud" when you dyed your hair red....hehehehe....you were the character

I LOVE YOU RICHIE

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SON

WE COULDN'T HAVE HAND PICKED A BETTER SON

I HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND MANY MORE TO COME

  5. Hi Debbie!!
By all means use the picture. I have no claims to it at all.
The wedding plans are all over the place!!
I have been busy off and on this week with the bride gathering up all the essentials that will be needed. I have the one bird cage made, 9 more to go! I went to Michaels & guess what they had "birdcages", but mine is bigger so will continue to make them.
    Enjoy your blog also!!

  8. His heart must glow with the love you share~ Such a special blog...I think the best part~ when you share how happy he always is. I love that our children are happy. They live in the moment, love, laugh and that is the prayer I prayed when we were pregnant for ours. "Please, let them be healthy and happy."
I'm sure you'll LOVE Marjolein Bastins work...there is a link on my blog if you need. Thanks so much for your SWEET comments!
    You're a gem~

  9. Debbie, thank you for visiting my blog today. I love making new friends.

What a wonderful tribute to your precious son. The details you have shared of his life make me feel like I know him...I smiled many times while reading, just thinking of the pictures you painted with your words.

As the mom of young children, it is an encouragement to see a mom whose children have reached adulthood, and to realize that those special moments are never forgotten, and that the relationship forged will be a continued delight.

I look forward to getting to know you!

  22. Hi, Debbie,

First, Happy Pink Saturday and stopping by my blog with your lovely comments! (Sometime next week I'll be posting some photos of my poetry book for Rick, if you're interested in coming back -- probably early-mid-week.

Second, I love this story dearly! You are an amazing mom and Amy is lucky indeed to have you. I remember well how very important those school treats were -- your reputation was on the line! This was lovely.

Finally, glancing down your blog, I see you have an orange boy you love like my Gypsy. Aren't orange cats the best? Their purr is amazing!
