LOOK WHAT DAY IT IS: ~~PRESIDENT'S DAY~~
ALSO KNOWN AS ~~THE WHITE SALE DAY~~
I GUESS THEY THINK EVERYONE IS OFF WORK FOR PRESIDENT'S DAY...NOT TRUE...SALES SHOULD NOT BE TOO GOOD WITH ELEVEN MILLION PEOPLE WITHOUT A HOME....
THINGS WERE HARD FOR THE LINCOLN'S...
WHEN THEIR FIRST SON, ROBERT WAS BORN ON AUGUST 1, 1843, THE LINCOLNS LIVED IN THE GLOBE TAVERN. THIS WAS UNSUITABLE PLACE FOR A COUPLE WITH A BABY.
THE LINCOLNS MOVED IN THE FALL TO A FRAME COTTAGE AT 214 SOUTH FOURTH STREET.
IN 1844 THE COUPLE PURCHASED A HOME FROM DR. CHARLES DRESSER, THE EPISCOPAL MINISTER WHO MARRIED THEM. THIS WAS THE LAST HOUSE THEY EVER OWNED.
I WONDER IF THEY LIKED SHABBY CHIC....PROBABLY NOT!
"WITH MALICE TOWARD NONE, WITH CHARITY FOR ALL, WITH FIRMNESS IN THE RIGHT AS GOD GIVES US TO SEE THE RIGHT, LET US STRIVE ON TO FINISH THE WORK WE ARE IN,TO BIND UP THE NATIONS WOUNDS, TO CARE FOR HIM WHO SHALL HAVE BORNE THE BATTLE, AND FOR HIS WIDOW AND HIS ORPHAN TO DO ALL WHICH MAY ACHIEVE AND CHERISH A JUST AND LASTING PEACE, AMONG OURSELVES, AND WITH ALL NATIONS."

1 TEASPOON VANILLA
2 STICKS BUTTER OR MARGARINE
2 EGG YOLKS
1/2 CUP BROWN SUGAR
2 CUPS FLOUR
1/2 TEASPOON SALT
MARASCHINO CHERRIES
PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES.
IN A LARGE BOWL, MIX TOGETHER THE VANILLA, BUTTER, EGG YOLKS, AND BROWN SUGAR UNTIL CREAMY.
ADD THE FLOUR AND SALT AND MIX WELL
YOU, OR YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN CAN NOW ROLL THE DOUGH INTO 1" BALLS AND PLACE ON A GREASED COOKIE SHEET OR SHEETS.
HAVE THE CHILDREN MAKE A THUMB-PRINT IN EACH BALL AND THEN PLACE A MARASCHINO CHERRY IN EACH THUMB-PRINT
BAKE 8 TO 10 MINUTES.
THIS RECIPE MAKES ABOUT 3 DOZEN COOKIES
I AM SORRY FOR NOT POSTING EARLIER BUT I BECAME SO EXCITED ABOUT WHAT I LEARNED THAT I SPENT MOST OF THE DAY ADDING MY BLOG PICTURE TO MANY BLOGS. I WOULD ALSO LOVE TO HAVE YOUR PICTURES.
IT IS EXCITING TO SEE HOW CREATIVE PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN WITH THEIR PICTURES.
I LOVE THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE WHO SEND PICTURES OF THEMSELVES BUT IN MY CASE I USED A PIECE OF ART WORK THAT MY DAUGHTER MADE FOR ME.
I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT LITTLE PIECES OF HER IN EVERY AREA OF MY LIFE...IT IS LIKE ...SHHH...NEVER CUTTING THE UMBILICAL CORD. SO WHEN I COME TO BLOG... THERE HER ART WORK IS...SMILING AT ME...AND IT MAKES ME HAPPY.
I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE WHAT DEBBIE STANDS FOR...WHAT SHE LOVES...WHAT ARE HER BELIEFS...THAT ALTHOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN VERY DARK CLOUDS IN HER LIFE...JESUS BROUGHT THE SUNSHINE...AND SHE ALWAYS TOOK THE TIME TO PRAY FOR ANYONE IN NEED...THERE IS NO STRANGER WHEN A PERSON IS IN NEED OF PRAYER...AND ON MY 200TH POST I WILL REVEAL THE PERSON BEHIND THE BLOG. I WILL SAY THAT EVERYBODY WHO SEES ME THINKS I AM A TEACHER...I WAS A NURSE BUT I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE BEEN A TEACHER.
MAY THE SONSHINE DISSOLVE YOUR DARK CLOUDS
MAY YOUR JOY BE SO GREAT YOU WILL DANCE EVEN IF SOMEONE IS WATCHING
MAY YOU ALWAYS BE CIRCLED BY A GROUP OF FRIENDS WHO ARE GREAT ARTISTS..POETS...MOTHERS...SISTERS...VOCALISTS WHO MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE
BE BLESSED MY FRIENDS
HUGS

ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your post, Debbie. I lol about the Lincoln's liking Shabby Chic. I've been to Lincoln's home several times, and I cannot remember the decorating term the guide used, however in my book it was a decorating disaster--way too many patterns/busy. Here's a link you might enjoy:
