AN UPDATE ON AMY

MY NIECE HEIDI USED THIS PICTURE ONCE AND IT JUST MADE ME THINK WHERE
WE ARE AT WITH AMY. YESTERDAY A DHS WORKER CAME TO FILL OUT THE PAPERS TO
TRY AND START THE PROCEDURE TO HAVE HER APPROVED FOR THE ADVANTAGE
PROGRAM, WHICH WILL ALLOW HER 18 PRESCRIPTIONS A MONTH. IF CANCER HAS
NEVER TOUCHED YOUR DOORSTEP PRAISE THE LORD IT NEVER DOES.
THERE IS ENDLESS TRIPLICATE PAPERWORK BY EVERYONE THAT COMES TO
THE HOUSE AND WE HAVE ENOUGH HIPPA PAPERS TO WALLPAPER THE
WHOLE HOUSE.
SO MANY OF YOU ASK HOW AMY IS DOING. I AM TRYING TO STAY POSITIVE IN A
SITUATION IN THE NATURAL EYE LOOKS SO HOPELESS BUT THROUGH MY SPIRITUAL
EYES I SEE HER HEALED AND WHOLE AND FREE OF PAIN.
JUST A LITTLE BIT AGO I HAD TO GIVE HER PAIN MED THROUGH HER PEG TUBE.
I WAS LOOKING OUT THE PICTURE WINDOW AS KIDS, GIGGLING AND SHOVING EACH
OTHER, WERE WALKING TO SCHOOL. I COULD SEE AMY AND MY SON RICHIE
WITH THEIR BACK PACKS AND ME DRIVING THEM TO SCHOOL...."FLASHES OF MEMORIES."
ALTHOUGH I DID NOT KNOW THE CHILDREN I SAW TODAY I PRAYED FOR
THEM. THEY ARE OUR FUTURE...GOOD OR BAD....I PRAYED THE POSITIVE
AND THAT THEY WOULD KNOW THE LORD AND LIVE FOR HIM.
NO PARENT EVER THINKS THAT LIGHTENING WILL STRIKE ONE CHILD'S LIFE 5
TIMES IN 33 YEARS.
AMY WEIGHS SIXTY THREE POUNDS NOW. ONE MONTH AGO SHE WEIGHED 74.3 POUNDS.
HER LITTLE THIGH THAT ON 8/28/09 MEASURED 13 INCHES, NOW MEASURES 11 1/2
INCHES. SHE CAN NO LONGER WALK ALONE ON HER OWN......BUT HER SPIRIT IS
AS STRONG AS IT EVER WAS AND IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE GOD IS GOING TO HEAL HER
SHE WON'T EVEN TALK TO YOU. SHE IS AT PERFECT PEACE EXCEPT FOR PAIN, NAUSEA,
AND STARVATION.
SHE DESPERATELY NEEDS PRAYER FOR NUTRITION AND FOR THE NAUSEA AND
PAIN TO GO AWAY. WE CANNOT FIND ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT BRING ON
EXTREME NAUSEA AND/OR VOMITING WHEN WE FEED HER.
SHE TAKES ZOFRAN 4MG FOR NAUSEA....AND I HAVE
EVEN TRIED JUST GIVING HER 3 TABLESPOONS OF ENSURE EVERY 3 HOURS.
THAT IS NOT MUCH BUT EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS. THE JEVITY CAUSED HER
TO VOMIT CONTINUOUSLY.
ON TO A VERY HAPPY SUBJECT FOR AMY
YOUR CARDS HAVE MEANT THE WORLD....YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THIS SIDE OF
HEAVEN, WHAT JOY YOU HAVE BROUGHT TO HER......PLEASE TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS
TO SEND CARDS.......THE MOST CARDS SHE HAS RECEIVED IN ONE DAY WAS 12.....I
WOULD LOVE TO SEE HER FACE IF 24 ARRIVED IN ONE DAY. SHE IS TOO WEAK TO
DO ANYTHING, BUT WHEN "MAIL CALL" COMES HER EYES TWINKLE AND SHE IS ALL
SMILES.....SUCH JOY IT BRINGS HER. IT IS SOMETHING SHE HAS TO LOOK FORWARD TO.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. SO MANY NEED PRAYER:
PLEASE REMEMBER ASHLEY, NICOLE, SHERRY'S FOOT, MARYDON'S EYES, TAMMY,
ROY AND ELIZABETH, LADY KATHERINE, PATRICIA, DENNIS, JEAN, RICKY,
CAROLE, MADONNA, KIPPIE, KIMBERT, MONTE, BRANDON, DORIS AND RICHARD,
TAWNA AND MIKE, LEILA AND KORBIE, KENDRA, HAROLD'S BROTHER, TOM,
DORIS'S ANGEL IN IRAQ, LADY PENNIWIG'S SON, ALL THE LITTLE SICK PETS,
AND PEACE IN THIS GREAT NATION OF OURS.
MANY THOUSANDS OF THANKS TO YOU BEAUTIFUL BLOGGERS.
MICHELLE OF ROSEBUD QUILTING IT WAS A JOY FOR ME TO TALK TO YOU
YESTERDAY. IT WAS OUR PASTOR THAT WAS AT THE DOOR AND I WAS STILL IN
PJ'S. I WAS NOT EXPECTING HIM. ANYHOO, YOU'RE A BLESSING.
ANGEL HUGS TO YOU ALL
LOVE
Debbie

  1. Debbie, I think of you all everyday and say my prayer. These days with Amy are so precious and I know how your heart hurts. My Rachel went back to work yesterday and but for the grace of God may never have gotten to go back. Thank you for sitting down to send a post. I am so glad you both have such a strong support system. Oh geez the paperwork is a demon, for sure.

  6. Thank you for posting an update on Amy. I am trying to think of what could go into the PEG tube and maybe stay down...one of my brothers was able to eat pablum for a long time, another was able to sip horchata, which is a rice drink from Mexico.

Now let me run to get a card for Amy, too. The mail is a big day-brightener if you are stuck at home.

  8. Good Morning Sweet Sister,
I pray for all of you every minute, of every hour, of every day. I pray for peace, for strength, for courage, for patience and for love. To surround all of you. My sweet Amy Girl, please give her a hug for me this morning and remind her how much I love her. I mailed another card yesterday and two more are going out today. I know how she loves to get mail. I would so love to see her get (50) in one day. Maybe that should be our challenge. The mail man would have to ring the bell, as they would not fit in the mailbox. I'll have to see what I can do about that. I am still holding you up honey. Still holding you up. Talk to you soon. I love you, Your Sis, Sherry

  9. Dear Debbie, I'm with you and Amy..I continue to see her well and whole through spiritual eyes. It is never too late with God...He alone knows the number of her days. The fact that she isn't giving up speaks volumes of her faith in her BIG GOD! Whether He brings her through this with His miraculous power or He brings her to His side in Heaven, she will have won the battle. I am so proud of her and she is such an inspiration to me...I would only hope and pray that I could have the strength that both of you have shown us through this horrendous trial. I continue to pray for her total healing, for your strength as you care for your precious girl, and I pray for you to know God's peace and comfort. God bless you, Debbie, and God bless sweet Amy Dawn.

    Love you,
    Mary

  11. Bless her heart, Dear Debbie. It does my own heart good, to hear that despite everything, she still smiles! My heart goes out to you, as I can only imagine the paperwork you are facing, and fighting your way through, just to get to Amy, who needs your love and attention far more than a bunch of government pencil pushers ever will! (Shame on them all, as far as I'm concerned!.. especially in this time of big bailouts for others!) Anyways, Amy is still in my prayers, as well as all your family at this time.. ((Hugs)) ~tina

I am sure you are overwhelmed with all that is happening, and I know that everyone out here in Blogville appreciates you taking the time to sit down and do a post to let us know how Amy is doing. 16. Debbie, after reading these comments, I began to wonder about something. I already have your address, because Sherri posted it, so apparently that's ok with you. I just wondered if there was someone or some business close by that wouldn't mind cards coming to Amy at their P.O. Box, so that your home address would not need to be shared with the world. I was going to put something on my blog about sending cards to Amy, but wasn't sure if I should post your home address. When you get time, let me know. Thanks. laurie

  26. Dearest Debbie, what you saw when you looked out your window were the "heart pictures" you took years ago -- that's what my Mom called those precious memories.

I can't express how my heart breaks for you. Amy will be healed by God's own Hand; the prayers go on.

Blessings to you and Amy, and your dear sister -- Cass

  27. Hello Debbie,
I have been following Amy's story on Sherry's blog. I am so impressed with the fight in your girl! I sent a card from CA yesterday. I'm afraid I dated it for next Tuesday. I'm a bit out of sorts as my little one has been sick with the flu. My mom saw the note I put on my blog and said she would also send a card today. Hers will be the one with unreadable handwriting!

Praying for Amy's health and comfort.

I will be sending her a card. I wish I was there to hug you. Cyber hugs are on the way. May God Bless you. He is still in the business of healing so I am glad that you have claimed the Victory.

  30. Hi, Debbie. So many prayers are coming your way. I saw your response to Becca and when I read 'people might not want to visit a blog where there is sadness' I was immediately drawn to visit.

Someone above suggested something similar to rice water (rice boiled in 2-3 times the amount of water until the rice is softened into liquid). It is so hard to find something that isn't sweet and rice is as bland as it gets. Baby rice cereal, thinned would work as well.

You might consider not sending the Hospice aide away. Ask the supervisor of she can spend the time allowed at your place doing tasks like folding laundry while you bathe Amy, to free you up for some other tasks. If nothing else, she could sit quietly with Amy while you take a few moments for your self care or go outside for some time alone and prayer.

Oh, here I come, full of ideas. Do what works, and know that people do care and desperately wish to help.

  39. Something came to my mind as I was reading this post. When my husband was in the hospital for heart valve surgery they gave him food with splenda in it - it was called lo cal - and they said it was "good for him" to have lo cal. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds - not sure what the lo cal thing is - but anyway - after eating the splenda laced foods he was violently ill - couldn't keep a thing down. Just in case any product you are feeding your daughter has splenda in it - I wanted to let you know that many people vomit violenly after eating it - and they then become malnourished by the very foods that the doctors and nutritionists are saying they should eat. This is just to let you know about the results of splenda in many people - and if this can help your lovely daughter, then I am glad for that.

    Peace to you all.

  40. I cannot help but think of Amy when I say a prayer for my Dad. It's not an easy task to sit and watch a loved one suffer so, I certainly admire your endurance Debbie. I wish you Faith, Hope and continued Strength.

  41. Dear Debbie,

It's nice to meet you too. Thanks for leaving your comment on my blog. I would love to cheer up your precious Amy by sending her some cards. If you just tell me where to mail them to, I'd like to start right away. God bless you and your family. I will definitely pray for you and your family. I can't even imagine having to go through all that misery with a child. I, too, have a daughter about Amy's age, and I do thank God every day for her and ask for his blessings because without him we are nothing!

    Love,
