TWO TRAVELING ANGELS

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE.
I AM THANKFUL FOR SO MANY THINGS TODAY. I AM THANKFUL FOR
MY SAVIOUR, JESUS...MY HUSBAND OF 36 YEARS...MY SON RICHIE
AND HIS WIFE MEGAN...ALL YOU BEAUTIFUL SOULS THAT I BLOG
WITH...MY PARENTS AND RICHARD'S PARENTS AND ALL OUR FAMILY...
I AM SO THANKFUL FOR ALL THE PRAYERS THAT WENT UP FOR AMY
DURING AND AFTER HER GOING HOME...AND THE PRAYERS FOR US.
IT WAS YOUR PRAYERS THAT GOT ME TO THE RESTAURANT. IT WAS
A VERY EMOTIONAL MORNING. I WAS BLESSED TO TALK TO MY ONLY
SISTER. SHE WAS BUSY WITH GETTING HER THANKSGIVING READY.
I MADE LITTLE PLACE CARDS AND HAD FOUND 4 LITTLE PUMPKIN
PLATES AND 4 LITTLE LEAF PLATES....VERY SMALL....AND I SET THAT
AT EACH PLACE SETTING. WE HAD A PLACE SETTING FOR AMY WITH
A CANDLE....A CARD MADE BY SUE SETTING ON AN EASEL, AND PICTURES
OF AMY. WE TALKED ABOUT AND TO HER.
MY DAD IS A MAN THAT WOULD BLOW UP BEFORE HE SHOWED ANY
EMOTION AND HE DID NOT LIKE SEEING THE PICTURES OF AMY. IT
WAS VERY HEALING TO THE REST OF US. AND I KNOW HE ENJOYED IT
BUT IT WAS TOO EMOTIONAL FOR HIM.......MOTHER BROUGHT LITTLE
CHUBBY SCARECROWS AND BEAUTIFUL NAPKINS. WHEN IT WAS OVER,
RICHIE SAID, "I AM GLAD YOU DECORATED. IT WAS MORE LIKE BEING
AT GRANNY'S HOUSE AND AT HOME."
AMY ALWAYS BOUGHT LITTLE UNIQUE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR EVERYBODY.
SHE WAS VERY CLOSE TO MY BROTHER TED AS WELL AS MY SISTER.
ONE YEAR SHE WAS SO EXCITED BECAUSE SHE FOUND THIS CUTE
LITTLE LIGHT THAT FITS ON YOUR FINGER AND SHE JUST KNEW THAT
WOULD BE THE PERFECT THING FOR UNCLE TED. HE WORE THAT
LIGHT ON THE END OF HIS FINGER AND TURNED IT ON FOR AMY TODAY.
HE SAID, " SOMETIMES AT NIGHT i SHINE IT TOWARD HEAVEN."
WE ALL HAVE LITTLE THINGS THAT WE DO TO MAKE US FEEL CLOSER
TO THE LOVED ONES THAT HAVE GONE ON TO HEAVEN.
TONIGHT IT IS US FOUR....MY DH, RICHIE, MY SON, ME, AND MY DIL.
WE HAVE SOME FUNNY MOVIES TO WATCH AND POPCORN TO POP.
I HAVE FOUND THAT EVEN IF MY HEART IS NOT IN IT.....IF I GO
AHEAD AND DO IT....EVEN IF I EXCUSE MYSELF TO CRY...IT WAS WELL
WORTH THE EFFORT AND IT IS WHAT AMY WOULD WANT. TODAY
WAS A TINY STEP OF TIP TOEING AROUND THE SHATTERED PIECES
OF MY HEART AND EVERY OTHER FAMILY MEMBER'S BROKEN HEART.

TODAY AT THE RESTAURANT I HAD QUITE A MEMORY ABOUT AMY.

THERE WAS A LINE WAITING TO GET IN TO THE RESTAURANT.

(I MUST SAY I HAVE NEVER EATEN OUT ON THANKSGIVING DAY. I

TELL YOU I NEVER KNEW SOOOOOOOO MANY PEOPLE WENT

OUT TO EAT ON THANKSGIVING DAY. THERE WERE SEVERAL

GOLDEN COUPLES THAT I KNOW THE WIVES HAD COOKED AT

LEAST 30-35 MEALS THEMSELVES OVER THE YEARS. ONE OF THESE

LADIES ASK MY MOTHER IF IT WAS ALWAYS THIS BUSY.....MOTHER

SAID, "I DON'T KNOW. I HAVE NEVER EATEN OUT ON THANKSGIVING

BEFORE.")

WELL BACK TO MY MEMORY OF AMY. WHILE WE WERE STANDING IN LINE

THERE WERE TWO OF THE SWEETEST GIRLS GIGGLING AND WRITING

ON THE SIDEWALK WITH ROCKS.

WHEN AMY WAS 5 SHE WAS VERY INTO WRITING HER NAME....SHE

WOULD WRITE IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. AT THAT TIME I HAD

JUST GRADUATED FROM NURSING SCHOOL AND WE HAD BOUGHT A

NEW CAR.....(THE ONLY NEW CAR WE HAVE EVER OWNED BEFORE OR

SENSE.)

WE WERE GOING SOMEWHERE AND AMY WENT OUT SIDE BEFORE US.

WHEN RICHARD AND I CAME OUTSIDE OUR DARLING, ANGELIC, LITTLE

PROUD SHE COULD WRITE HER NAME DAUGHTER, WAS WRITING HER

NAME ON THE SIDE OF THE "NEW" CAR WITH A NAIL......A M Y.....SHE WAS

SO VERY PROUD OF HER WORK AND WE WERE BOTH LIVID OVER HER

WORK............SHE NEVER GOT A SPANKING BUT YOU COULD TALK TO

AMY AT THAT AGE AND SHE NEVER DID ANYTHING LIKE THAT

AGAIN. WE USE TO LAUGH WITH HER OVER AND OVER AGAIN ABOUT

HER WRITING HER NAME ON THE ONLY "NEW" CAR WE HAVE EVER

OWNED. WE MISS AND LOVE YOU AMY. MY COUSIN GINGER SENT ME THE STORY BELOW.....IT IS QUITE INTERESTING........

Two traveling angels...Keep reading to the bottom of the page -- don't stop at the feet (You'll see). Two
traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused
to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room.Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold
basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it.
When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, 'Things aren't always what they seem.' The next
night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing
what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.
When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow,
whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the
older angel how could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she
accused. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die. 'Things
aren't always what they seem,' the older angel replied. 'When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I
noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and
unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it.' 'Then last night as we slept in the
farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things aren't always what they
seem.' Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should.. If you have
faith, you just need to trust that every outcome is always to your advantage. You just might not know it until
sometime later... Oooo Some people ( ) come into our lives ) / and quickly go.. (_ / oooO ( ) Some people \

  2. Dear Debbie...

Tday is over pretty much this year and I enjoyed reading about your day. I have NEVER eaten out for Thanksgiving but today was a first. Just me and Steve, Adrie & Micah. Our sweet Brandon was away with wifey's family. It was crowded...a shock for us, too!

In reality...I loved it. I'm on Weight Watchers to get HEALTHY on the inside and outside and didn't want the left-overs. We ended up eating only HALF of what was on our plates and brought the other half home for dinner tonight. So much food. I loved having NO CLEANUP and NO STRESS this year.

I know you Miss your AmyGirl. I'm so glad you got to speak with Sherry. She LOVES YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! Do you know that? What a joy you both are to me...I'm blessed to know you both...God is so good and faithful.

Just wanted to tell you I'm thinking about you...and loving you...and praying for you...and trusting God to heal your very broken heart.

Angel Amy...she was that on earth...now she's one in heaven.

    Love to you~

    Happy Thanksgiving.

    Rebecca

  4. Your blog looks lovely and ready for Christmas! I think you did a very fine job.

We move so much that we did eat out at restaurants on Thanksgiving several times. It was always so busy and there would be a festive feeling in the air. My only complaint -- no leftovers.

You were brave to go out and join in a world that does not have Amy visibly in it. I can't speak for Amy, but I would bet my bottom dollar she was happy to see it.

Oh my, that story of Amy writing on the car with a nail!!! YIKES! Oh Amy!!!

Happy Thanksgiving, my dear friend, across the miles. I am so glad I got to know you and Amy this past year.

  5. How nice you were able to gather & have dinner in a restaurant, & enjoy yourselves, Deb. We did it once, I said 'never again'.

I did think about you today, as I know each day thru these holidays will be difficult for you, your heart & arms will ache ... but know that Amy is with you in spirit. God is with you to lift & hold you in these days ahead.

How lovely you spoke with Sherry, she is one loving sister ... you are very lucky to have her. She is such a wonderful support system for you, never stops giving of herself.

Thoughts & prayers are lifted for you all ... may God bless you. Hugs, Marydon

You are such a strong woman and one of great faith. I received your lovely card. Thank you so much.
My love to you and your famiy,

  10. Dear Debbie so glad to see your post. I know it was hard to go out, but what a wonderful and creative way to celebrate. You were the winner of the Marie Osmond Needle punch kit. I will mail to you if you send me your address. I had it when I mailed cards but must have misplaced it. Wasn't sure you saw my WOW page to honor Amy on http://womanofwisdom-peggy.blogspot.com. Love and blessings.

  13. Dear Debbie, I can only imagine how hard the day must have been for you. I think the little girls writing with the rocks were Amy's way of saying "HI" as you waited in that line:) After we lost a special family member 4 yrs. ago, I read a wonderful book called " Hello, from Heaven", not sure if you've ever heard of it, but if you would be interested in reading it, let me know and I'll send it to you, it brought me some comfort during the grieving process:) Hugs~ Carmen

  14. Oh Debbie, you had your first Thanksgiving without your beloved Amy and it was fine. I could feel all the healing for the family in the way you described each member. I know it was harder for some, but in the end, I am sure they felt so blessed with hearts full of love, as they told stories and relived memories. I am so happy to hear you did decorate altho I have no doubt it was very hard for you. Amy would be smiling I am sure. I loved the story of the angels, I also believe there is a reason for all of this, even tho we may never know what that reason is. I was elated to see that you spoke with your sister, God is good to us, and God Bless you all. I think of you everyday, one day at a time, Char

  15. I cried and smiled. Holidays are so hard when we are separated from someone we love, but the memories help.

I love the story about the finger light. How absolutely special!

Blessings to you and your wonderful family.

  16. I have been following your blog since Amy's illness and passing and you and your family are very much in my thoughts. There can be nothing more painful than a sick child and then to watch that child die is a pain that has no words to describe. Your faith is quite inspiring, and I just want you to know that there someone on the East Coast is thinking of you, Debbie.

  19. It must of been a hard day for you and your family, but how nice that you were able to go out to dinner and not have to cook and clean up afterwards.
I tried to comment on your last post about a week ago, but it wouldn't let me, so I thought I would try again.
Cute story about Amy writing her name on your new car...even though at the time, it had to be frustrating. She sure touched a lot of people in blogland.

  21. Oh my goodness - you do a wonderful blog and I am so glad you write your feelings. I was thinking about you all day yesterday.

We went out to dinner too.

Years ago when the young man next door to us was a little boy he wrote all over my daughters red Honda with a rock - played tic tac toe on it and everything! Needless to say we didn't laugh then, but we laugh at it now.

I'm glad you set a place for Amy.

  22. Debbie, I prayed for you on Thanksgiving, and once again, I am late seeing THIS. I am not sure what's going on with Blogger, but I'm one of your followers. So it should roll up and let me see it. I left messages on the previous post, though.

I'm sending you much, MUCH love across the miles. I'm so proud of you for getting out and going to the restaurant. And I am proud of you making it through yesterday. I so want to reach out and touch your heart and heal it, but I know the Lord will do that.

We've also gone to restaurants with family some in recent times, and Mr. Magpie and I did that yesterday. We were supposed to be with our close friends and godchildren in NC, but we couldn't make it. So we went on a date to l brunch/lunch. We ended up sitting next to a young couple who were with their two little boys. We visited back and forth with them for two hours. Funny how God works. I really think they needed for us to be there with them. God is SO good, and whether it's a restaurant or a family table, He's willing to eat with you wherever you invite Him. I know you know that because He was right there with you, too.

    Love you SO much...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  23. Debbie,

I thought about you on Thanksgiving morning and prayed that you might have a good day. I am glad you did well and I think the way you celebrated was perfect. I think the fact that you are willing to "tip toe through the shattered pieces of your heart" already, speaks volumns about your strength and shows your relationship with a mighty God who will hold you up. The story about the angels was soo good, and soo true. Thanks for sharing it. Continuing to pray for you, Debbie

  25. I'm glad to hear that you spent your Thanksgiving with your family and that all of you recognized that Amy's spirit is still with you.
We had a lovely dinner at my Mom's house and then we went to visit our friend Ben at the hospital for the rest of the day.
Isn't it funny the things that we remember? And how we can make bad moments turn into Wonderful moments?
    Hugs & Blessings

  29. Good morning sweet Debbie!

I adored your story of Amy writing her name on the new car! Our oldest son did the same kind of thing on the pristine woodwork of our first house (built in 1905)and my husband had to send me out of the house because I was too out of control!! But of course now it's a funny memory. Thank goodness those things turn from anger to laughter.

I just wanted to stop by and tell you how thankful I am I've found you in this big huge world and wish you a good holiday season. I know you'll be seeing things through different eyes but I know you will find whatever God has in store for you. We will be celebrating for our loved ones that are with our Lord Jesus this Christmas in the ultimate celebration of our faith!!

With love & blessings & hugs, Sherry

  30. Dear Debbie,

It is good to have you back. I so enjoy you sharing your thoughts, feelings and stories. I feel there is a healing that is slowly taking place within you and your family. Your faith and words of wisdom have become an inspiration to others, including myself.
Whoever said life is easy must be in fantasy land..the daily challenges can get over whelming at times & nearly drive one to the brink.
Thank you for including my Sister-In-Law in your prayers..she has survived 8 hospital stays since last January and is on the mend with her diabetes.
