THERE REALLY IS AN ANGEL ON MY FRONT PORCH

WHEN I WAS THINKING UP A NAME FOR MY BLOG, I KNEW IT WOULD INVOLVE

AN ANGEL IN ONE PART OR ANOTHER AND THEN IT CAME TO ME...

THE ANGEL IN THE PICTURE ABOVE HAS BEEN THE GUARDIAN OF THREE OF OUR

FRONT PORCHES FOR OVER 20 PLUS YEARS.

BACK WHEN WE LIVED IN BROKEN ARROW, OKLAHOMA, AMY HAD CANCER

AS A CHILD. WHEN THE HOME CARE NURSES WOULD ASK IF OUR ADDRESS WAS

ON THE HOUSE, I WOULD SAY, "YES! BUT....THERE'S AN ANGEL ON OUR FRONT PORCH!"

THUS I DECIDED THAT WOULD BE MY BLOG NAME:

THERE'S AN ANGEL ON MY FRONT PORCH

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NEW TO MY BLOG, I WILL EXPLAIN WHY MY URL IS:
WHEN AMY BECAME SICK OVER 17 MONTHS AGO THE LORD GAVE ME THE
SCRIPTURE:
"I WILL GIVE YOU BACK YOUR HEALTH AND HEAL THY WOUNDS," SAITH THE
LORD.
~JEREMIAH 30:17

TEN THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME:

THIS SHOULD BE FUN

I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED A LITTLE GREEN HOUSE IN MY BACK YARD
AND I WOULD LOVE TO OWN A LITTLE FLORIST WITH A FLOWER CART
OUT FRONT....IT WOULD LOOK LIKE IT HAD BEEN TRANSPORTED FROM FRANCE

I AM TERRIFIED OF HEIGHTS AND FLYING
(this is way higher than it looks....it was the Royal Gorge looking down from a
safer place)

I LOVE ART ON WALLS SUCH AS WHAT MY FRIEND DORIS, CAPTURED DURING
HER TRIP TO SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (please forgive me if I spelled the name wrong
of this beautiful city I would love to visit)

I WAS WILLING TO WEAR A GREEN WIG TO THE OKLAHOMA STATE FAIR 2008
SO AMY WOULD NOT FEEL OUT OF PLACE IN HER ORANGE WIG......WE WERE THE
ONLY ONE'S WEARING WIGS BUT IF WE HAD A $1.00 FOR EVERYONE WHO ASKED
WHAT PART OF THE FAIR THEY COULD BUY WIGS LIKE OURS (as if I was the type
who would normally wear a green wig to the state fair....but then it does look far
too normal) WE WOULD HAVE EACH WALKED AWAY WITH ABOUT $300.00....
WHAT A MOTHER WON'T DO FOR HER DAUGHTER.
IT WAS TOTALLY LIBERATING HOWEVER!

I LOVE HATS...I COLLECT HATS...I WISH MORE WOMEN WORE HATS

AND GLOVES. I AM A SECRET HAT MAKER AND LOVE DOING IT

I HAVE MADE THE HATS FOR TWO MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS FOR OUR

COMMUNITY THEATER

I LOVE CHICKENS AND ROOSTERS....I COLLECT THEM BUT I WOULD
LOVE TO HAVE A REAL HEN HOUSE.

I COLLECT EVERYTHING I CAN ON LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD BECAUSE

BOTH IN NINTH GRADE AND FRESHMAN YEAR OF COLLEGE, MY HANDSOME

AND ONLY SON...PLAYED THE WOLF IN THE PRODUCTION

"INTO THE WOODS."

I DON'T TALK MUCH ABOUT MY SON RICHIE (Amy and I are the only ones that can

and do call him Richie, besides his Aunt and my sister, Sherry, who calls him

Richie Bear--he looks forward to it secretly) BUT HE IS A GREAT, MARRIED,

HARD WORKING MAN WHO NEVER MEETS A STRANGER, AND IS NATURALLY

FUNNY WITHOUT TRYING.

AMY AND RICHIE ARE LIKE TWINS....BORN 7 YEARS APART

THEY ARE CLOSE

I ADORE AND LOVE PICTURES OF VICTORIAN CHILDREN LIKE IN THE

PICTURE ABOVE. IT SHOWS TRUE BEAUTY, GRACE AND INNOCENCE

PICTURES LIKE THE ONE ABOVE MAKE ME SMILE AND FOR A MINUTE

FORGET HOW MEAN PARTS OF THIS WORLD CAN BE

I HUNGER TO GO TO PARIS, FRANCE AND THEN THE COUNTRY SIDE OF

FRANCE. I WANT TO SEE THE BEAUTY WHERE THE TOURISTS DON'T TRAVEL

I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO THERE AND THE PARIS FLEA MARKET OF

COURSE.

I LOVE UMBRELLAS OF ALL KINDS AND COLORS......

WHEN I SEE AN UMBRELLA I DON'T THINK OF RAIN FOR SOME REASON.....

I THINK OF FUN AND THE MUSICAL, WHERE THEY SANG......

SINGING IN THE RAIN

I ALSO COLLECT CANES......I HAVE ONE THAT I BOUGHT AT AN ESTATE

SALE, WHEN I VISITED MY SISTER IN PHOENIX......THE OWNER OF THIS

CANE HAD BEEN THROUGH GERMANY AND EVERY LITTLE VILLAGE THEY

WENT TO, OBTAINED A LITTLE METAL TAG AND WITH TINY, TINY NAILS

NAILED THE LITTLE TAG TO THE CANE...THE TAGS ARE FROM THE TOP TO THE

BOTTOM OF THE CANE

I FEEL PRIVILEGED TO OWN IT

ANGEL HUGS

THANK YOU AS ALWAYS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO VISIT ME TODAY.

YOU ARE VERY SPECIAL TO ME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR VISITS

  5. Good Morning Sunshine!
I love this post today, and seeing your little cart on the porch, and ofcourse the precious angel, I feel like I walked right up and in. I will be home in the fall, but it sure is nice to see home everyday with you. I love you my precious sister. You know if I had been there, we would have 3 gals sporting mighty colorful wigs, as you know me, I never miss an opportunity to be different. Love it. This was fun. I can still see us on the Royal Gorge bridge and me jumping up and down saying "Break bridge break." I have never been afraid of heights and I do not know why. Someday we are going to walk the streets of Paris and see the countryside together. We just have to. I love you sweetie. Please have a GREAT day today, and give my Angel Amy and Richie Bear a hug for me. All my love, Your Sister, Sherry

  6. Just had to come back and say thank you for your comments on my blog. I did speak up but my voice only went so far. We have a new person in charge since our Pastor's wife was in charge and they left last month. She is my friend and this is very hard. I spoke my concern over doing 5 new songs out of the 6 we usually do. I'm learning to keep my mouth quiet and pray! Thanks again!

First off it was a pleasure to get the Prevention for Amy, I have not walked in your shoes, and to even begin to understand the pain as a Mother to have a child, even an adult child ill breaks my heart into, I would be happy to do what ever I can to help.

  13. Hi Debbie.. I enjoyed your post today! I feel like I've said this to you before??.. but I think we have some definite interests in common! I love collecting a variety of things.. Among them, roosters and chickens (yes, I wish I had some too!)... I LOVE hats!!... I hate heights.. and I wish I had a greenhouse, or at least some patch of earth to grow a garden in!! Living in an apartment flat, I will have to be content with my window garden I have in my kitchen (which maybe I will post sometime down the road!).. Anyways, Just want to say "Hi!" (0; Hope this finds you and Amy well!

  15. Oh Aunt Debbie, I should've read your blog earlier before I posted before, you are adorable in your green wig :) thats great I wish I were there to wear a blue one lol. Well the angel on the front porch I have always remember you with angels, and cross stitches, and the memories of us sitting outside catching fire-flies when I stayed over when visiting. They are wonderful memories, and I love your blog name, because you remember I would ask you if when I died could I be an angel to? I love you.

  18. Oh Debbie, it's funny, but whenever I would read the title of yr blog, I would think, "Yes, when Debbie stands on her front porch, there is indeed an angel on it!" and now I find you meant the stone angel! So when you stand out there, I guess there are TWO angels out on that porch!!!

Loved hearing about your son -- I won't call him Richie, I'll just refer to him as Mr. R. And Mr. R. sure seems to be a fine man. An honest, hardworking person without airs is a rare find!

But most of all, I loved hearing about you! Loved reading those 10 things! And that picture of you in the green wig with Amy in her orange one -- wow, it looks so CUTE!!! It was a wonderful post as usual!!!

  32. Hi, Debbie!

How is your daughter doing today?
I came over to see what you are doing.

I love hats, too! And gloves and all things feminine. Wish we still wore them. Love your music. I would love to have a hen house, too. Some of my neighbors have chickens and one of my girlfriends had a moveable coop. She pushed it around the yard, so that her chickens would "fertilize" the yard. It worked!

Hey! Your pussycat looks exactly like my Timmy! I have two cats and they are my little babies - they love each other.

    Have a great day!
